Vernal Equinox

March 20, 2012

A work in progress, about the progress of Spring in the Pacific NW

Vernal Equinox

The vernal equinox
Is cold as midwinter
And even though the sun
Is passing over the equator
Heading North to our tropic
And the birds, the noisy birds
Ring my ears with their enthusiasm
Our river is swollen
And the western Cascade slopes
Remain white on the clear-cuts
When I glimpse them
Through the grey curtain
That is tearing the pink blossoms
Off the optimistic Cherry trees.
